Checking Weight

A Journey of 200 pounds

There wasn't one defining moment for me. I struggled with my weight since I was a child. I started out as just chubby, but by college I was overweight, and as an adult obesity and morbid obesity came along quickly. I hit my highest weight of 360-366 a few times in my adult life, most recently in winter of 2023. A combination of chronic pain, depression, and poor eating habits coupled with a long-unknown bevy of metabolic issues meant weight was easy to pack on and near impossible to take off. It wasn't until 2022 that I found a doctor who would even run half the tests that I needed to determine that I had metabolic issues including hypothyroidism, leptin resistance, and low testosterone. My body was actively working against itself as I was trying to lose weight, and there was medical proof that it was near impossible for me to do it alone. I needed help, and surgery was going to be my tool of choice. On November 20, 2023 I had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy, also known as the sleeve or VSG. This blog is my chronicle of the journey I took from the day I decided to embark on this journey once and for all, and through my recovery. Join me as I work to lose 200 pounds.
